Doctor Who Audiobooks – Doctor Who On Modern Media

During the early part of the nineteen sixties the BBC, the British Broadcasting Corporation, decided that it wanted to cash in on the burgeoning interest in the race for space, and fill their Saturday evening slot with a futuristic program related to a space age concept.

The producer was a Canadian called Sydney Newman, who had been responsible for bringing a series called 'Pathfinders In Space' to British television. Newman was considering several different ideas before he settled on the possibility of a series based on time travel.

This is the concept that was to lead to the creation of Doctor Who, the longest running series of science fiction TV shows in history.

During its amazing run of over forty years on British television, Doctor Who has seen ten actors play in the leading role, it has seen its characters, both human and non human, become household names, and has seen dedicated fan clubs grow up all over the world.

Everything in the garden has not always been rosy, however, and at the end of 1989 the series was taken off the air.

It was not until 2003 that it was decided to resurrect Doctor Who, but that has proven to be a very wise choice as the new series has been rewarded with both excellent viewing figures, and critical acclaim.

Although fans of the series are rightfully delighted to have it back on British television, with the introduction of modern media, people are used to entertainment on demand, and it is to that end that many VHS and DVD sets have been produced.

Apparently the production of Doctor Who VHS video recordings is now to come to an end. October 2003's release of a collection called 'The End Of The Universe' appears to signal the end of the old tape format for Doctor Who.

DVD offers far superior durability and picture and sound quality, of course, but due to deals between TV companies it is getting harder to identify exactly what is available where, and to whom.
One fascinating new development is the release of a series of Doctor Who Audiobooks. These Doctor Who Audiobooks allow anyone to listen to classic episodes of the series at times when it is not possible to watch a TV show, such as when driving a car, or when out walking or jogging.
Of course it is also of use to blind and partially sighted people. These Doctor Who Audiobooks are available as downloads on the internet, so you don't have to leave your desk in order to browse the catalog, order, and enjoy the results.
Some of the old episodes that were so tragically wiped by the BBC in the mid 1970s are also available in this format.

Now they have infiltrated the airport, setting up the bogus Chameleon Tours in order to kidnap passengers and take over their very identities. As the Doctor and his companions become mixed up in the alien machinations, it soon becomes difficult for them to distinguish friends from enemies…

This story, only two episodes of which survive in the television archive, marks the departure of companions Ben and Polly, played by Michael Craze and Anneke Wills, from the series. It also features Frazer Hines as Jamie and Pauline Collins as Samantha Briggs.
